About Us
Odesa Company is an independent theatre staging and education company based in London, Ontario. We were founded on November 18, 2022 by Adam Smalley, Chris Smalley, and Scott Smalley. Odesa Company is a member of the Western Ontario Drama League (WODL) since 2024.
Our inaugural production was the definitive 1927 adaptation of Bram Stoker's novel "Dracula", written by Hamilton Deane and John L. Balderston. "Dracula" opened at the Palace Theatre to rave reviews on Friday, October 27th, 2023. It won two 2023-24 WODL Awards (best lighting - Rob Coles, and best visual production) with 9 nominations, including directing (The Smalley Brothers), set design (Chris Smalley), costumes (Debra Chantler), lead role (Laura Williams - Van Helsing), supporting role (William Flood - Renfield), sound design (Holly Calnan), and memorable moment (inclusion of Bat Form, Thralls).
We've also worked with other theatre groups on build services and support, including MTP London (The Drowsy Chaperone, Big Fish), London Community Players (Kinky Boots), and Opera at Western University (ongoing; most recently Cosi Fan Tutte). Our Executive Director, Scott Smalley, has previously served on both the Elgin Theatre Guild and Palace Theatre Arts Commons Boards of Directors; our Production Designer, Chris Smalley, was the head carpenter for the Port Stanley Festival Theatre's 2025 season, and he continues to support their builds.
In our short history, we have gained a strong reputation in the community for the quality of our productions and set builds; our leadership committee is comprised of local theatre artists with a passion to support the growth of great theatre in the community.
MISSION STATEMENT
At Odesa Company, we believe theatre should be daring, collaborative, and deeply human. We create bold, high-quality productions, interactive experiences, and educational initiatives that invite artists and audiences of all ages to engage and imagine.
We support skills development that apply both on stage and in life, and we treat our people with respect, transparency, and care. We foster a culture of integrity and inclusion, grounded in the belief that diversity strengthens both our art and our society.
VISION STATEMENT
Odesa Company exists to make theatre that connects people - through storytelling, meaningful collaboration, and shared creative experiences. We aim to be a place where artists feel valued, audiences feel engaged, and everyone involved walks away inspired to come back and do it again. As we grow, we’re building a creative home where innovation, care, and community shape not just our shows, but the future of how theatre is made.

Excellent performance this afternoon. So moving and riveting! Don’t be surprised if you have tears in your eyes at some points, because the subject matter is so emotional. The actors are so professional and so amazing! This is a show not to be missed.

I just saw this play. The directors are phenomenal. The play is very powerful. The actor that played “The Elephant Man” was superb. His expressions with the words was brilliant. He captured the body movements of the Elephant Man [...] It is a must see!
